Alstroemeria

Vase life from tight buds 10 - 12 days. Remove foliage from below water line, keep re-cutting bottom of the stems and it is a must to change the water every day on these flowers.

Banksia

Their vase life at their best is about 10 - 14 days. They need fresh water and drink quite a lot of it. Keep vase full. Remove leaves below water line. Many people like to keep them as they get older and dry out. A true native flower to Australia.

Calla Lilies

Expected vase life 7 - 10 days. Normal season is in summer. Imported in commercially grown colours and varieties that are now available a lot of the year. Yellow locally grown ones can last 14 days.

Carnations - large Sim & smaller Spray Carnations

Vase life of 7 - 10 days. Spray carnations generally last longer than the Sim carnations. General cut flower care required. They grow in a huge range of colours.

Chincherinchees

Vase life of 14 days. A variety of Ornithagalum, these fabulous flowers need just general cut flower care to really enjoy them for a long time. They have a relatively short season in October - November. Often by the time you have enjoyed them for a few weeks and come back to buy another bunch the season has finished! One of the best value cut flowers you can buy.

Chrysanthemum - Button

Expected vase life 14 days. Keep their water changed frequently. Remove any deteriorating foliage and cut them shorter to extend their vase life.

Chrysanthemums - Daisy

Expected vase life 10 - 14 days. Keep their water changed frequently. Remove any deteriorating foliage and cut them shorter to extend their vase life.

Chrysanthemums - Disbud

Expected vase life 14 days. These flowers drink a lot of water so make sure you check their water level daily. Remove any deteriorating foliage and cut them shorter to extend their vase life. One of the best value cut flowers you can buy. At their best quality, if you look after them, you can get three or four weeks out of them, particularly the green ones.

Daffodils

The large bright yellow King Alfred daffodils will usually last about a week if the room they are placed in is not too heated. Other varieties of daffodils have a vase life of about 3 - 5 days. Their season is August.

Earlicheer

Have a vase life of about 5 days and are extremely fragrant. This is a flower that is very popular for the fragrance but a flower to be avoided for sinus & hay fever sufferers. Their season is July - August.

Gerbera (mini)

Vase life can be 5 - 10 days. Do not put bleach in the water.

Gerberas (large)

Vase life can range from 3 - 8 days. Heads must have a support wire and do not place anything in the water. Bleach can burn the tips of the Gerbera flower.

Heliconia - Crab Claw

Vase life 7 - 10 days. Normal cut flower care applies. Don't place them in a cold place. Some colour varieties last longer than others. You can get 2 - 3 weeks vase life.

Heliconia - Psittacorum (small)

Vase life about 7 days. Normal cut flower care applies. Don't place them in a cold place.

Hyacinths

Vase life 7 - 12 days. If they come with the bulb on the bottom still, growers recommend leaving it on for better vase life. Extremely fragrant, this is a flower that is very popular for the fragrance but a flower to be avoided for sinus & hay fever sufferers.

Iris

Vase life from tight buds 5 - 7 days. If already open then 2 - 3 days. Iris do not last very long if placed in a warm room.

Jonquils

Have a vase life of about 3 days and are extremely fragrant. This is a flower that is very popular for the fragrance but a flower to be avoided for sinus & hay fever sufferers. Their season is Late June - early August

Kangaroo Paw

Vase life of about two weeks. Native to Australia, summer season. General cut flower care required.

Leucadendron

Available almost all year with the exception of January - February. General cut flower care required and make sure they don't run out of water. Vase life of about two weeks. Colours available vary throughout the year. One of the flowers frequently classified as natives but actually native to South Africa.

Lilium - Oriental

Vase life of 10 - 14 days. Extremely fragrant blooms. This is a flower that is very popular for the fragrance but a flower to be avoided for sinus & hay fever sufferers. Available in white and various shades of pink. Also available occasionally in a pale lemon colour. Oriental lilium are more sensitive to heat than the other varieties of lilium, but in the right conditions are the longest lasting. If the flowers go soft and floppy try cutting the stems quite short.

Liliums - Longiflorum (Christmas / November lilies)

Liliums - Asiatic

Vase life from tight buds 7 - 10 days. No fragrance. Colours available in yellow, white, orange, dusty pink, brick red, apricot.

Lily of the Valley

Has the shortest season of any flower that we get - about two weeks in October. Its vase life is only 2 - 3 days but the flower has the loveliest perfume and everyone shares a memory associated with this special flower.

Lisianthus

In season (summer) vase life of 10 - 14 days. Easy to care for flower. General cut flower care applies. These flowers don't mind a warmer environment. Winter grown lisianthus generally have a shorter vase life of about a week.

Orchids

Singapore orchids generally have a good vase life of approximately 2 weeks. They come in an enormous range of colours and varieties. Their performance as a cut flower can vary over the year. During our summer (the wet season in Malaysia) the orchids can have a shorter vase life.

Paeonia - (commonly called Paeony Roses)

Vase life of about 7 - 10 days. This flower starts off as a tiny little round bud and ends up in a large full bloom containing lots of petals. Some colours and varieties have a sweet fragrance, others do not have a fragrance. They have a naturally short season of only late October & November. Colours are shades of pinks, white, burgundy, salmon.

Protea

Their vase life at best is about 10 days. They need fresh water and drink quite a lot of it. Keep vase full. Remove leaves below water line. Many people like to keep them as they get older and dry out. Often classified as a "native" flower, but actually native to South Africa.

Ranunculus

Vase life 5 - 7 days. General fresh flower care applies. Season is August - September.

Roses - garden style, cottage roses

Expected vase life 3 days. Wonderfully fragrant and beautiful, but expected vase life is not as long as commercial, glass house varieties.

Roses - large imported

Expected vase life 7 days in normal weather conditions and placed in a cool environment. In warm weather in a house that is not air conditioned vase life is shortened to 3 - 5 days. These flowers particularly benefit from flower preservative added to the water. Cut the stems shorter to extend the vase life of the flower.

Roses - small imported

Expected vase life 3 - 5 days. Cool environment essential to vase life. Re-cut the stems and use flower preservative. Cut the stems shorter to extend the vase life.

Snapdragons

With a vase life about 5 - 7 days, this is a flower that it is absolutely essential for the water to be changed daily and the foliage below the water line to be removed. Try washing the stems each time you change the water. They do not have a fragrance and are available frequently throughout the year. They are more sensitive to being placed in a warm room.

Stock

With a vase life about 5 days, this is a flower that it is absolutely essential for the water to be changed daily. They have a sweet cinnamon like fragrance and seasonally flower in August to mid-September. With a woody stem they drink better if they are cut diagonally.

Sweet Peas

Their expected vase life is 3 - 5 days. Sensitive to being placed in a heated room. A very delicately fragrant flower. The local sweet pea season is August to mid-September.

Tulips

Vase life from tight buds 4 - 6 days. If already open then they only last about 2 - 3 days. Tulips do not last very long if placed in a warm environment. Tulips are at their best from May until the end of August, but available a lot more of the year. Vase life the rest of the year is typically only about 3 days.

Water lilies

Vase life from bud 10 - 12 days. Can take about 4 days for the bud to open at all. These flowers need to have the stem immersed up to the flower head for them reach their full potential.
